We will tailor the orientation to the questions you raise here, and we’ll also look ahead to the work we have yet to do over the summer to prepare for the fall.

This summer will be unlike most, as the rest of the faculty will join you in adapting our syllabi to teach them partially or entirely online in the fall. This is new to all of us!

Here is the document we use to share updates about the fall as we get them.

As we all work on this, though, we’re mindful that these lessons that feel new to us may be especially new to you, particularly if you are new to teaching, too. We’ll help you get your classes set up on Google Classroom, and we’ll begin that project as soon as you get your QC email accounts.

We have Alexis Larsson on hand to work with you as a mentor, too, drawing on her experience as a writing instructor in our department and also on her training in digital pedagogy.

We’ll be in touch with more details about the training course in Google Classroom as soon as we get them. Meanwhile, if you’re curious about Google Classroom and you have the time, we invite you to begin surveying it with:

Also, bookmark this page from the Center for Teaching and Learning. It’s full of resources that you’ll need as a new faculty member in the fall.

If you have any questions, you are welcome– as always!– to email us, either individually or at our collective address: fyw@qc.cuny.edu.
